THE CHALLENGE
The Lafayette School District (LafSD) is like many districts in California in that the majority of our funding comes from the state. In this regard, we’re tied to the economic wellbeing of the state and the overall tax revenue collected each year. As the economy goes up, so does spending on schools; as the economy declines, so does the state’s support for schools.
↑ Like every household and business in the country, LafSD and LPIE will continue to be impacted by inflation and rising costs on expenses ranging from staffing to technology to supplies.
↓ It also appears that our state’s economy is slowing. California’s tax revenue collection over the last six months has been dramatically lower than projected, and most public school advisors are predicting that the recent growth in LCFF funding will be dialed back to 3-4% per year.
MEETING THE CHALLENGE
Last year, with your support, LPIE raised $4.1 million to support our six public schools. This year, to replace state revenue cuts from one-time funding and to address rising costs, LPIE needs to raise $4.5 million to support:
